Dr. Kamm is Columbia-trained and well-versed in the treatment of psychotherapy and psychopharmacology. He is also a Certified Group Psychotherapist and runs co-ed groups to help people improve their relationships.
He has been lecturing Nationally and Internationally on the topic of Sport Psychiatry since the 1970's. Currently his main interest is Sport Psychiatry.
In addition to consulting with High School and College teams, he has treated Elite athletes in all sports, and was the Sport Psychiatrist for the USBL Jersey Shore Cats, coached by Rick Barry, NBA Hall of Famer.
Dr. Kamm has found that athletes suffer from the same psychiatrist conditions as the general public but are an underserved population. Some conditions (substance abuse and alcoholism, ADHD, eating disorders, and possibly depression and anxiety) actually have higher incidences in the athletic population.
Dr. Kamm's articles and opinions have appeared in the New York Times, Sports Illustrated and in numerous postings on the internet. He has written chapters in three recently published textbooks on Sport Psychiatry, and is on National Boards serving the sports of gymnastics and boxing. Dr. Kamm also served as Vice President of Gerry Cooney's organization, FIST, helping boxers transition into other occupations before suffering brain damage.
Dr. Kamm is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Drexel University School of Medicine. He has made numerous radio and television appearances, including a discussion with Sam Donaldson on ABC News. Dr. Kamm has been named one of the 100 Most Influential Sports Educators of America by the Rhode Island-based Institute for International Sports.
He serves as a peer reviewer for journal articles in his field, and most recently was asked by the prestigious Journal of Psychiatric Practice to write a book review about the recently published "Sports Psychiatry-Strategies for Life, Balance & Peak Performance". The review appears in Volume 19, Issue 6.
