I Really Can't Feel Bad About The Eagle's Loss

I really can't feel bad about the Eagle's loss. Before the season, I had them at nine and eight or 10 and seven, best case. I know they were in the Super Bowl!

And finally, we were going to get a chance to see Hurts, and the defense, facing more than competent opposition. With a hold-up? Would they be good?

Hurts was good. Passing, running. No problem with him, the fumble was just as much Sirianni's fault as his. He called for a formation, that the Kansas City, middle linebacker, Nick Bolton, recognized as one in which Hurts would make a designed run. How can you call such a formation in such a big game? It's all on tape. How can you put your franchise quarterback, who is not fully recovered from a shoulder injury, in danger of a big hit? As it was, from the inquirer reporter, Jeff, McLean‘s perspective, Hurts panicked when he saw a Bolton blitzing untouched, and not accounted for. He then fumbled, and then kicked the ball, instead of pouncing on it.

Of course, Nick Bolton ran it in for a touchdown. Why do I have to be from Philadelphia?

McLean also questioned why the call was made in the first place since Hurts was motoring at 11 for 13 in the passing department. You know, common sense, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. He was having his way with the KC defense, as Mahomes was with the Eagle's defense.

Speaking of that defense, and Jonathan Gannon, they had no stops in the second half. According to McLane and Marcus Hayes of the inquirer, the defensive ends were getting chipped by tight ends and running backs, but there was no adjustment, as usual. There were no sacks. There were only maybe three pressures that Mahomes easily evaded. The runners, Pacheco, and McKinnon, torched the Eagles, as runners have all year. In addition, there was no adjustment. The wide receivers scored touchdowns, on routes that mirror each other, motion-based TDs, which, according to McLean, Doug Peterson ran successfully against the Eagles in week four. Why wasn't the defense prepared? We're talking about the red zone.

Jeffrey Lurie is loyal to his subordinates and so it goes down the line. Everyone says good things about Canaan, but the emperor has no clothes and somebody has to say it and somebody has to listen.

One last question about Sirianni. I haven't watched it yet on tape, but it seems to me there was a crucial offensive series where the eagles were penalized twice for lining up late. They seem to be some other, Miss Q in addition. I would think this is all on Sirianni, but maybe it's on hertz and just hasn't been mentioned.

All in all, a terrific Super Bowl to watch. The Bradberry call was BS. But that's for another column.
