The decision to start Jalen Hurts against a supposedly weaker Washington team despite his injury, and not having full confidence in Marcus Mariota, is quite concerning. Hurts is playing with an injury, and the team should allow him the necessary time to heal, as he's not performing at his best and needs to recover. A reliable backup quarterback, like a skilled relief pitcher in baseball, can be a game-changer for the team.

In my opinion, a Super Bowl contender should have a backup quarterback with a proven track record in the NFL who can step in and perform effectively. Candidates like Nick Foles, who had a memorable season with the Eagles prior to the Super Bowl win, or veterans like Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, or even the dream scenario of Tom Brady, would be ideal.

Mariota has not demonstrated consistent high-level performance in his professional career, and the Eagles should look for someone who has. They cannot allow the situation to deteriorate as it did after the Jordan Davis injury, where they didn't find suitable replacements and lost winnable games with inadequate stand-ins. To genuinely contend for a Super Bowl and protect against the possibility of an injured Hurts being unable to play, they need to acquire a backup quarterback of the caliber mentioned above. The Eagles need to face the reality that they lack faith in Mariota.

Game Updates:

Update #1

At 12:20 in the second quarter, the defense suddenly appeared as sturdy as tissue paper, easily torn apart. Unbelievable!

Update #2

Do you want the good news or the bad news. The good news is that the Eagles finally stopped the commanders. I would not have believed it. The bad news is that Bradberry dropped a pick six in order to do it.

Update #3

With 4:14 left, the Eagles were fortunate to regain possession. Washington's wide-open receivers had trouble making catches. I like their chances! Let's see if Hurts and the Eagles can seal the game; that will reveal a lot about Hurts and his team.

Update #4

AJ Brown summed it up well in the post-game interview: "We have a lot to clean up." And indeed, they do. The team displays a concerning level of inconsistency on both offense and defense.

Allowing Washington a legitimate chance at the end of this game was a significant lapse. I'm finding it hard to envision this team returning to the Super Bowl playing in this manner. While they are securing wins, their inconsistency will likely come back to haunt them when facing stronger opponents.
