JT Realmuto Should Be Traded

JT Realmuto should be traded at the trade deadline for a starting pitcher and a reliever. By not getting vaccinated, he has shown himself to be a poor teammate. Not being available to play when the Phillies are fighting for a playoff spot is anti-– cohesive. The most talented team does not always win, but the most cohesive team has a good chance of winning (see Atlanta Braves versus Los Angeles Dodgers and last year‘s NLCS). For that matter, for all his promise, Alec Bohm should be on the trading block as well. You have to have a teammate you can count on… (see Ben Simmons, Kyrie Irving) in order to make the playoffs or to go for in the playoffs.

Those who are vaccinated are less likely to get infected with omicron, especially if they’ve gotten at least one booster. The Phillies players who have elected not to get vaccinated are putting both their teammates and themselves at risk. The risk is not only getting severe disease or hospitalization since they are not vaccinated, but also transmitting this new omicron variant to teammates which would be a double disaster. In another line of work, if travel was required to Canada, an employer would insist on vaccination or termination of employment.
