Watching these 100-win teams struggle or face elimination in the playoffs emphasizes my belief that teams fighting for their playoff spot and prevailing in the opening round carry essential momentum and confidence.

The 100-win teams, usually clinching their division comfortably and resting, might lack optimal preparation for the playoff intensity, leading to surprise victories by the scrappy 87 or 90-win teams during the LDS. This recurring pattern somewhat diminishes the significance of the regular season, a scenario undesirable for both baseball and its fans.

Hence, I propose offering top-seeded teams the choice to play the first round against the lowest seed or take a well-deserved bye. Engaging in this opening round battle could lead to more predictable and equitable outcomes, addressing the current imbalance.
