The Phillies think they are okay with their group of "closers." They don’t know that. They are hoping. Hope is not a strategy. They blew too many games, including the Diamondbacks series, because of no dependable eighth and ninth inning shut down relievers.
Nick Nurse is bemoaning the Sixers' lack of toughness against the Pelicans, but really, these guys are not a team. They haven’t played together as a unit where they can make runs or withstand runs consistently. No Maxi and no Embiid means everybody’s scrambling to figure out their role, instead of playing. Kelly Oubre said they were thinking too much, and he’s right.
Fletcher Cox retiring doesn’t surprise me; in fact, nobody retiring would surprise me after the dysfunctional last year. Don’t just think they are going to push a restart button. Sirianni is through as a coach, and, in my opinion, is over his head and not equipped to withstand difficulties.
There may be a lot of new faces on our offense and defense, which doesn’t bode well for a team that really needs cohesion. Jalen Hurts will play a huge role, and whether team cohesion can return. If he’s the star he used to be, everyone can rally around that and play above their heads. If we see a repeat of last year, The Eagles are doomed to less than mediocrity.
Lastly, Jason Kelce will come out of retirement and play with his brother on the Chiefs -- you heard it here first. Although after all of his years of dedication, he certainly would deserve it, Philly fans will be left with an additional reason to ask why they're from Philadelphia.
